After the talk with Dominique wherein he'd learned that she had filed for divorce from Mal, Arthur knew he had to do something. For both of their sakes. For a long time they had been his friends, his family even, and ever since Mal had found out the truth about him and Dom, it had all been eating away at him. The cheating. The lying. The fact that no matter where Dom was stuck now, she loved them both and could he take one of them away from him without them trying? The vows she'd made had been to Mal, not Arthur, after all.
The letter was hand written, carefully worded and then left for Mal at his office. Leaving the building, Arthur had his overnight case in hand, hailing down a cab and giving directions to the airport. Maybe if they had time, time with him away, they would work it out. If not, then he'd know it wasn't meant to be and that he wasn't responsible for taking that kind of love away from the two of them.
Dear Mal,
I lied to you. For a long time I've lied to you, telling you that Dominique and I were only partners. I needed you to believe that so I could take what I wanted from you, from Dominique. She is a good woman, but a trusting one as well. She had no reason to believe that I was nothing more than a monster, tricking her into throwing away her marriage for me. I see now it is hurting her and I can't be responsible for that.
I've arranged for counseling for you both, tomorrow at the address below. Try and give her another chance, Mal. It wasn't her fault. I made her give up her marriage for me. Now I'm going to do the right thing.
